He’s been talking about it for years, and for years, nothing has happened. But now, it finally looks like shock-jock Howard Stern’s proposed remake of the 1979 classic “Rock ‘n’ Roll High School” — in which punk legends the Ramones help a gang of rock-lovin’ students take over their school and overthrow its oppressive administration — has been given the green light, according to Variety.Stern, who acquired the rights to the film back in 2002, will produce the film with Larry Levinson. Screenwriter Alex Winter (Bill from “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure”) has been pinned down for the script, but so far, there’s no word on when production will commence. Stern and Levinson are also working on a remake of the 1982 comedy “Porky’s,” another project that the Sirius Satellite Radio host has been jabbering about for years.
As a longtime fan of both Stern and these films, I’m happy to see these remakes haven’t been shelved — which, given Howard’s relative silence about the projects in recent years, I assumed they had been. Let’s hope they’ll feature some sort of a cameo from Stern, who hasn’t graced the big screen since 1997’s “Private Parts.” Fingers crossed that his rumored remake of “Taxi Driver,” with Eric the Midget in the lead, isn’t far behind.
Are you excited to see “Rock ‘n’ Roll High School” and “Porky’s” remakes? Is Stern the ideal film auteur? Or should we just go home and rent the classics? Tell us!

Batman The Dark Knight Rakes in $155 Million at the Box Office - An All time Best!
Sunday, July 20, 2008
Saw The Dark Knight film over the weekend and I like others think this is the best Batman film to date. I am going so far to say this is one of the best films I have seen this decade.
The film has done so well it easily came in #1 at the box office, no surprise there, but also set an all time box office record in one weekend topping the box office at a whopping $155 million.
Heath Ledger pulled off an amazing performance as the Joker, it is a shame, much like Brandon Lee of the Crow, won't be able to see the success and rave reviews of his role.
Here is a recap of the top films of this past weekend:
1. The Dark Knight, $155.3 million
2. Mamma Mia!, $27.6 million
3. Hancock, $14 million
4. Journey to the Center of the Earth, $11.9 million
5. Hellboy II: The Golden Army, $10 million
6. WALL-E, $9.8 million
7. Space Chimps, $7.4 million
8. Wanted, $5.1 million
9. Get Smart, $4.1 million
10. Kung Fu Panda, $1.8 million
Here is the trailer one more time to entice all who have not seen this film and those who have to make another trip:

The Doors Documentary in the Works
Tuesday, May 27, 2008
According to Ray Manzerek, keyboardist for the Doors, he has told Billboard.com there is a Doors documentary in the works.
"We have plans for a big Doors documentary film in the works," Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek tells Billboard.com. "I saw the first cut of it yesterday, and it's looking real good. But that won't be out 'til another six months."
Although Manzarek is keeping a tight lip at the moment on specifics about the documentary, he did confirm that it would feature a large amount of rare footage. "Absolutely -- that's the whole point of it. Never before seen! This is the anti-Oliver Stone [referring to Stone's 1991 film, 'The Doors']. This will be the true story of the Doors."
Stay Tuned for More...

Tim Burton to Direct Alice in Wonderland
Director Tim Burton, who will helm a new film adaptation of Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland stories, said that he will stay true to the stories' essence.
"It's just such a classic, and the imagery is so surreal," Burton said in an interview while promoting his latest film, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. "I don't know; I've never seen a version where I feel like they got it all. It's a series of weird adventures, and to try to do it where it works as a movie will be interesting."
Burton will also produce the adaptation, which will use both live action and performance-capture animation.
"The stories are like drugs for children, you know?" Burton said. "It's like, 'Whoa, man.' The imagery, they've never quite nailed making it compelling as a full story. So I think it's an interesting challenge to direct."
Filming on Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is set to begin in early 2008. Burton will work from a script by Linda Woolverton (Beauty and the Beast).

Johnny Depp to play Pee Wee in New Film?
Johnny Depp is considering an offer to star in two forthcoming Pee-Wee Herman movies, playing the legendary kids’ character in Pee-Wee’s Playhouse: The Movie
Paul Reubens, who played Pee-Wee in TV shows and films until 1990, has completed two scripts he hopes to bring to the big screen in 2009. Until now, Reubens planned to reprise the role himself, but admits he has spoken to Johnny Depp about taking on the part instead. Reubens says, “(He said) Let me think about it.”
Besides appearing together in 2001’s Blow, the two actors are also linked through director Tim Burton - one of regular Depp-collaborator Burton’s first films was 1985’s Pee-Wee Herman’s Big Adventure and most recently Depp stars in Burton’s newest film Sweeney Todd. (Check out the trailer HERE) I wonder if Burton will direct this one too.
I don’t think the movie needs to happen, but I think Depp can pull it off. Look what he did for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. He’s good at playing those eerily creepy kids characters. I can’t really picture him doing that famous Pee-Wee laugh though, that may take some practice.

Control Wins BIG at British Independent Awards
Thursday, November 29, 2007
uk.reuters.com
Anton Corbijn's "Control" was the big winner at Wednesday night's British Independent Film Awards, walking off with best movie, director and a pair of actor awards.
Corbijn's black-and-white film, based on the short life of Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis, scooped a total of five awards, including the evening's big two: best British independent film and best director.
Corbijn's biopic exorcised the threat of "Eastern Promises," "And When Did You Last See Your Father," "Hallam Foe" and "Notes on a Scandal" to secure the evening's best picture nod.
Corbijn beat Anand Tucker ("And When Did You"), Sarah Gavron ("Brick Lane"), David Cronenberg ("Eastern Promises") and David Mackenzie ("Hallam Foe") to the punch as best director.
The Dutch director also secured the Douglas Hickox Award for best debut director for his film.
The movie's Sam Riley earned the most promising newcomer nod for his turn as the enigmatic singer-songwriter, who committed suicide at age 23, just as his band began breaking into the big time.
Best supporting actor went to Tony Kebbell for his swaggering interpretation of Joy Division band manager Rob Gretton. Kebbell was nominated for a best newcomer BIFA in 2004 for his role in "Dead Man's Shoes."
Viggo Mortensen's performance in Cronenberg's "Promises," which includes an infamous naked knife fight in a sauna, secured best actor honours, while Judi Dench earned the best actress nod for her barnstorming turn as a jealous, lonely teacher who resorts to blackmail to keep a friendship in "Notes on a Scandal."
Writer Patrick Marber secured the screenplay award for "Notes on a Scandal."
The winners of the 10th annual BIFAs also included a best documentary award for Julien Temple's "Joe Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten."
BIFA organizers noted that the awards -- presented at the Roundhouse in London for the first time in the event's 10-year history -- have grown "to celebrate the increasingly diverse range of talent out there."
This year's Richard Harris Award for outstanding contribution by an actor to British film went to Ray Winstone.
The winners were chosen by a jury composed of veteran industry executives, filmmakers and actors.

Another Kurt Cobain Film in the Works
Friday, October 19, 2007

From Dot Music
The life and death of Kurt Cobain is to be turned into a movie, with an acclaimed biography forming the script, according to reports. Charles Cross' acclaimed "Heavier Than Heaven", originally released in 2002, was based on hundreds of interviews with the dead rock legend, his friends and family. Universal Pictures are understood to have secured the rights to the book and have now asked "Troy" screenwriter David Benioff to put together a script. Courtney Love, Cobain's widow, is expected to executive produce the film, alongside her lawyer and part-time actor David Benioff. There is currently no news on whether any Nirvana music will be featured or if Dave Grohl, who has a tempestuous relationship with Love, has been asked to get involved. Since his suicide in 1994, Kurt Cobain has been the subject of numerous big screen interpretations, namely Gus Van Sant's "Last Days" in 2005. Also due for release shortly is AJ Schnack's "About A Son", which incorporates 25 hours of interviews with the star, against an atmospheric cinematic backdrop.
